Does a walk in nature create a sense of joy in your heart? Have you ever hugged a tree or marveled at the gorgeous twinkling moonlight on newly fallen snow? Let’s make that twinkling twilight on gently rolling ocean waves for my Florida friends!
All of the designs on the new Fall/Winter Handbag Collections share the beauty, power and magic of nature’s energy. I’m always photographing elements of nature that ‘feel’ good – because they are literally, sharing the vibrations of their location, colors, the time of day, the smells, sounds and sights of nature’s seasonal effects. Nature has so many beneficial vibrations and all we have to do is tune in to align with this power.
All of the designs in my new Fall/Winter Handbag Collections are created to energetically share the amazing vibrations of the flora, fauna or location they are based on. The 8 new designs, available on 5 different styles, are: Tribal Zebra, Peacock Diamond Blues, Red Dragon, Leopard Reflections, Snake Pattern Browns, Silver Maple, No. 9 Bridge Blues and Baby Greens in Gray.

I’m beyond excited to introduce my new Fall/Winter Handbag Collection – especially for those of you who get the part about sharing “the beauty, power and magic of nature!” So many of my friends are gardeners, landscape architects, plant, flower and tree enthusiasts, people who truly feel the joy of being in tune with nature. They are also the top collectors of my art and Debra Cortese Design bags.
I’ve been creating nature art and designs since the early 80’s and it was in 2007 when I decided to add a line of handbags to my ever growing project portfolio. Except for a brief hiatus last year due to a trio of family and personal challenges, my line of Nature’s Energy design bags has grown steadily.
I’ve just released the 2013 Fall/Winter Collection of 8 new designs, several have definite northern, Catskill Mountain energy and colors and of course I’ve included a few that emit the wonderful warm energy of South Florida subjects! This collection features wild creature and nature element designs that are intentionally created to energetically share the natural vibrations as I first experienced them while photographing and researching each design. Tribal Zebra, Peacock Diamond Blues, Winter Snake Browns, Leopard Reflections, Red Dragon, Baby Greens in Gray, Silver Maple and No. 9 Bridge Blues are all available on five fashionable bag styles: a large business/travel tote, a soft side casual tote, the cross body hipster bag, a leather wrist wallet and a dopp bag.
You can see all eight designs on all 5 bag styles HERE. Plus, when you order any of the new bags between November 15th and the 26th, the shipping if FREE in the continental USA, and… several of the styles include a FREE matching leather wrist wallet/cell phone case (a $75.00 value). My way of thanking you for supporting my designs and helping me share the magic of nature!

It’s a long story for another post, or may be better to let it go and just move forward, but…
I’m back in the handbag design business and to celebrate I’ve just finished the first new TRIO COLLECTIONS.
Peacock Feathers (which is an updated version of last year’s top selling design), Aquarius Blues – a design that incorporates one of my Flower of Life astrology patterns (I plan to create a TRIO Collection for all 12 astrology signs), and Golden Fractals, a reinvented pattern that is based on a detail of the leaves of the Oleander plant.
Each TRIO includes a large, casual (beach) tote bag, matching flip flops and a matching leather wrist clutch. The regular retail value of these 3 items would be $204. Place your order by April 22, 2013 for delivery by Mother’s Day, May 12th and pay only $129 for all three products, PLUS, shipping is included for addresses within the continental USA.
All products are created to order and I have a guarantee on all of my work. It’s on each product page.
Place your order today or before April 22nd if it’s for a Mother’s Day Gift. If you have any questions, call or email me. My contact info is on each page or HERE.

I’m very excited to see that Pantone’s color of the year for 2013 is one of my absolute favorites – EMERALD!
I have designs in dozens and dozens of shades and hues of green, because to me, Green is the color that represents the ultimate beauty, power and magic of nature and, if you are familiar with any of my work, you already know that 99% of my art and designs are based on nature 🙂
Green is also the color of the heart chakra, one of the primary energy centers of every human body. According to the information that I’ve been studying on the Flower of Life, the heart chakra is the major energy element responsible for the shift in consciousness that our world is already engaged in. The world is not ending, it is expanding and as the collective consciousness embraces more and more of the energy-thoughts-beliefs of a heart-based, community oriented society, our world will evolve and become the physical representation of these beliefs. If you’re interested in learning more about this shift in consciousness I recommend the following resources:

I’ve been thoroughly entranced with Flower of Life throughout this year and when I think back, this has been with me forever. Flower of Life is the ultimate representation of the powerful, core elements of life.
When you can truly know the visible and underlying structures of our universe, Flower of Life is the basis of source energy that connects every thing we can see and imagine: tangible physical things, thoughts, relationships, events. Flower of Life is smaller than the smallest known element and is capable of expanding into entire universes – to infinity and beyond. Every structure of sacred geometry can be found by connecting points within the Flower of Life. This is my current favorite aspect of it. I anticipate a long and progressive relationship with this powerful energy and know it has many more secrets to share. It is a process of learning, accepting and cultivating the properties that are aligned with the work I love and using the energy of Flower of Life to create and share life stories. It connects every thing and every one.
We are only limited by our beliefs. Imagination and focus are key elements to be all we desire. Our ultimate, true power lies within our hearts and our thoughts. I’ve had FOCUS as my personal keyword for several years. It continues to challenge and remind me to stay on the path that is the most joyful and inspiring one for the highest good of all.
I have so much in my head as I write this, but want to keep these posts somewhat focused and hopefully interesting. Your comments are always welcomed especially because our relationships are vital to the expansion of who we are all becoming.
And… of course I have new Flower of Life designs to share 🙂

It’s always charity event season here in Miami and as an artist, I receive dozens of requests from all over the country to donate art or my handbags to all kinds of worthy causes. I’ve become much more selective over the years after experiencing a variety of unprofessional situations and attitudes. It makes a tremendous difference when the organization is professional and shows their appreciation for the time, materials and creativity an artist puts into a work of art. The official letter thanking each donor for their contribution is pretty standard and it makes a great impression when I am also invited to be a guest at the event, but getting personally introduced to the winning bidder creates the most rewarding experience of all because charity event patrons often become collectors of the artist and look forward to seeing more of their art at future events.
This is a major benefit of the dynamics of cultivating donors and collectors. It’s about building relationships and communities. It is about everyone winning on all levels. The charity raises money to support their projects, the patron not only buys the painting that generates the sale, they get something unique and beautiful for their home or office and the artist gets recognition and ideally, a new collector.
When I think about my Orchid Angel I often wonder where if she is hanging on someone’s wall that truly appreciates her nurturing, peaceful energy. I hope so. On the other hand, she could be stuffed into a storage closet with unsold auction items. If that’s the case, I’d love to reclaim her!
Raindrops were glimmering through the morning fog and an odd looking creature was hanging from the bamboo leaves next to my driveway. As my family and friends know, I can never resist a closer look at something that moves, makes a sound or has an unusual shadow, shape, or smell.
The “creature” turned out to be three Zebra Long Wing Butterflies. Two males, sexually aroused and not so patiently, waiting for the young female to emerge from her cocoon. I originally thought they were either dining on some other unknown creature or assisting the young lady in unfurling her wings, but further research* suggested that mating with a newly emerged female is part of the dance of life for these butterflies. The female releases a pheromone as she is unfurling her virgin wings and the males have excellent pheromone sensors. This also made sense as to why so many other males were fluttering around the same branch practically knocking the perched males off the bamboo branch.
Of course, since today was the first day of Social Media Club South Florida’s 30 day blog challenge…
this would be my topic – with images and oh yes, even a new design based on the Zebra butterflies. Well, about 7 hours later (I did accomplish other things in this time and realize it is essential to pare this way down for future posts, but as often happens, the project took on a life of its own) I’m finally putting all of the pieces together and getting this on my blog!
I invite you to share the beauty, power and magic of your garden or neighborhood in a comment with a photo on this post, or by email to debra (at) debracortese.com
Enjoy the beauty, power and magic of nature every day!

Priority Mail 3 day delivery now at day 36 and still traveling…
On July 3, 2012 a Miami Mom mailed a USPS Priority Mail Envelope to her daughter in northern Vermont. It was/is a birthday gift and daughter’s birthday was July 6th. It was a new address and Mom used the street and house number (not the PO Box). Consequently, the daughter was not located and the package has been traveling in circles for 26 days as of this writing. Attempts to locate it and redirect have been futile. After several attempts to contact USPS customer service online, including one conversation with a real person who assured the Mom that a special case number would be issued to locate and correct this and that someone would call the Mom on the next business day, the Mom was ready to give up. However, she realized that social media may produce better results, so on day 31 the Mom posted a message to the USPS Facebook page and on day 34, she got a personal note from USPS with a suggestion to call the Morrisville, VT Post Office, and she did. She talked directly with a representative of the USPS and the person was polite, professional and genuinely concerned, plus she called the Mom back the very next morning after consulting with her supervisor and told the Mom that as soon as the package came back to Morrisville, she would call again to let the Mom know. As you can see from the tracking log, it never made it back to Vermont. Instead, it took the route back to Opa Locka, FL and then made a turn to revisit Federal Way, WA. That was on August 6th, 2012.
By now, the Mom is wondering if the little Priority Mail Envelope has gone undercover, incognito, or is in a state of terminal amensia as it cotinues to revisit the mysterious locations like Opa Locka, FL, Nashua, NH, Kent WA, Federal Way, WA, Morrisville, VT and Lake Elmore, VT.
The Mom is also wondering why it was never marked ‘return to sender’ or maybe that is no longer an option. If you know anyone in the USPS that can actually locate the package and get it either delivered or returned to sender that would be much appreciated, and yes, I’m the Mom in this story.
