EMERALD, Pantone’s Color of 2013 – aligned with global energy shift

I’m very excited to see that Pantone’s color of the year for 2013 is one of my absolute favorites – EMERALD!

I have designs in dozens and dozens of shades and hues of green, because to me, Green is the color that represents the ultimate beauty, power and magic of nature and, if you are familiar with any of my work, you already know that 99% of my art and designs are based on nature 🙂

Green is also the color of the heart chakra, one of the primary energy centers of every human body. According to the information that I’ve been studying on the Flower of Life, the heart chakra is the major energy element responsible for the shift in consciousness that our world is already engaged in. The world is not ending, it is expanding and as the collective consciousness embraces more and more of the energy-thoughts-beliefs of a heart-based, community oriented society, our world will evolve and become the physical representation of these beliefs. If you’re interested in learning more about this shift in consciousness I recommend the following resources:

Rainbow Sisters

Rainbow Sisters - diversity of life on planet Earth

Resurrecting a derivative image which represents the feminine energies of our planet. It is based on an original pastel drawing that I did many, many years ago which has long since been misplaced/lost over many moves and life chapters.

Rainbow Sisters expresses unity in diversity; it is ultimately about our global transformation as ‘one’ mutually supportive community of beings where all life is honored, respected and valued. It is about living in harmony with all people, all things and accepting that we are all one magnificent, divine beeing expressing millions of variations of the possibilities of life.

Rainbow Sisters is available on Journals, cards and on a variety of custom products and print sizes. Contact me HERE if you would like information on custom sizes and products.

Deadlines, photos, a new holiday pattern?

Day 3 of #SMCSFBlogOff challenge…

I’ve been so absorbed in work today I just realized after 10 pm that I hadn’t even thought about today’s post until now!
So, after reading yesterday’s post, where I proclaimed that I would have the product pages up by today… I’m realizing that I’m often not in control of my day! Time to improvise and feature photos for today’s post.

These are two nature photos that I’d like to work into new designs for fabric and wrapping papers.

Which photo would you like to see turned into holiday designs, the little pine tree on the left or the lignum vitae seed pods, bottom right?

I’ll document the step by step process for a future post, but I’m not committing to a date just yet 😉

30 Day Blogging Challenge with Social Media Club South Florida starts today!

slides of emerging Zebra Longwing Butterfly and the males in waiting

Raindrops were glimmering through the morning fog and an odd looking creature was hanging from the bamboo leaves next to my driveway. As my family and friends know, I can never resist a closer look at something that moves, makes a sound or has an unusual shadow, shape, or smell.

The “creature” turned out to be three Zebra Long Wing Butterflies. Two males, sexually aroused and not so patiently, waiting for the young female to emerge from her cocoon. I originally thought they were either dining on some other unknown creature or assisting the young lady in unfurling her wings, but further research* suggested that mating with a newly emerged female is part of the dance of life for these butterflies. The female releases a pheromone as she is unfurling her virgin wings and the males have excellent pheromone sensors. This also made sense as to why so many other males were fluttering around the same branch practically knocking the perched males off the bamboo branch.

Of course, since today was the first day of Social Media Club South Florida’s 30 day blog challenge…
this would be my topic – with images and oh yes, even a new design based on the Zebra butterflies. Well, about 7 hours later (I did accomplish other things in this time and realize it is essential to pare this way down for future posts, but as often happens, the project took on a life of its own) I’m finally putting all of the pieces together and getting this on my blog!

I invite you to share the beauty, power and magic of your garden or neighborhood in a comment with a photo on this post, or by email to debra (at) debracortese.com

Enjoy the beauty, power and magic of nature every day!

TOTEM Core

I wanted to create a custom background image for some of my new blog pages and since I didn’t really have a specific image in mind, I experimented with many variations of nature’s textures and colors from images taken in my back yard. The deep contrast and texture of the bark on our avocado tree was one of my first choices. The energy of the bark is powerful, serious and grounded.

I tested several versions of the bark texture with different flowers and leaves, however when I added the fern frond, which is a prolific character accenting many areas of our back yard, it started to feel right!

Reflecting or mirroring images is one of my favorite techniques in revealing the hidden magic of nature’s energy. You never know what you will actually see when the pieces come together and this time was exceptional! After sizing, layering, adjusting shadows and opacity and putting them all together, a center column of totem devas appeared. Now, this is often exactly what happens however, the images in this piece are profound to me. Their appearance and positions tell a story about the forests (perhaps a bit of fortune telling) and the importance of global connections and interdependence of ALL  living elements.

What do you see?

Yes, I am a nature lover. I am soothed, balanced, energized and inspired by plants, trees, leaves, and flowers. I love cloud watching and  delight in hearing the early morning bird songs, and in observing the industrious work of honeybees and spiders. Even snakes are welcomed as they tend to the removal of some critters that would otherwise gorge themselves on my rows of tasty vegetables.
